30.05.2007 During last week’s debate in the Sabor (Croatian Parliament) on the report submitted by Gender Equality Ombudsperson, Karmela Caparin, an MP from the ruling HDZ (Croatian Democratic Community), said that there is more discrimination in labour and employment now, compared to previous years. In her view, the main cause for such regression is the insufficient public visibility of the work done by the Ombudsperson. The Croatian Women Network reacted strongly to that statement, but also to the debate in general.

29.05.2007 After it announced its action “Placate Your Hero”, the BIRO Movement received a number of threats from members of various neo-Nazi organizations. Fearing the united neo-Nazis and nationalist may direct their aggression towards BIRO activists, the movement decided to conduct its action a day earlier.

29.05.2007 The youth should be the vanguard in creation of better society free of discrimination in Kosovo, having in mind it makes up two thirds of Kosovo’s society, said Bardhi Bakija, Youth Coordinator of the Youth Initiative for Human Rights in Kosovo, at the start of “Stop Discrimination” street action.

28.05.2007 The city of Zadar, under the auspices of cooperation within NATO�s Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC) and Croatian National Bureau for Protection and Rescue, hosted the \'IDASSA 007\', May 21-24. Under the auspices of the project, a variety of catastrophic events and disasters were simulated, such as earthquakes, fires and terrorist attacks.

23.05.2007 The Ombudsperson for Gender Equality and Government Committee for monitoring and evaluation of implementation of gender equality policies reacted to the beer commercial of “Zagrebacka pivovara” brewery, that goes with the slogan “Zuja’s Law No.11: Men notice only the important stuff”. The said commercial depicts a woman coming home with bags filled with groceries – after she went to hairdresser to get done for her man – but he totally ignores her showing interest only for beer bottles.

18.05.2007 Members of Albanian Parliament have flagrantly violated 10 articles of the Parliamentary Book of Regulations and Procedures (articles 7, 25, 34, 45, 55, 57, 62, 65, 67 and 77). These violations include a wide array of infractions, ranging from physical altercations between the deputies, for which the Speaker of the Parliament failed to penalize the transgressors, to deputies present during Parliamentary meetings casting votes on behalf of their absent colleagues, both during plenary sessions and committee meetings.

16.05.2007 A group of Macedonian non-governmental organizations give their full support and solidarity to Iso Rusi, journalist and president of the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Macedonia, related to the attacks and threats that the Democratic Party of Albanians (DPA) sent to his address provoked by his recent op-ed, titled “Gospodin Gospodin Thaqi” (Gospodin Gospodin is the official title of the archbishop of the Macedonian Orthodox Church), published in “Koha” daily newspaper.

09.05.2007 On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina emphasized the importance of the protection of freedom of expression in a democratic society and reiterated its concerns over moves to limit this freedom, particularly in the public broadcasting services of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
